Bu derleme yazısında, Dr. M. Taner Gören’in geçtiğimiz senenin (2022) sonlarında yayımlanan Sağlığın Ölümü başlıklı kitabı vesilesiyle, yazarın görüşleri temel alınarak, Türkiye’de mevcut hekimlik pratiği ve mesleğin toplumsal-siyasal koşulları gözden geçirilmektedir. İyi hekimliğin âdil, eşitlikçi, demokratik ve kamucu bir siyasal rejimi gerektirdiği savı, söz konusu kitapta yer verilen meslekî deneyimler doğrultusunda gerekçelendirilmektedir. Onun da ötesine geçilerek, Sağlıkta Dönüşüm Programı’yla birlikte büsbütün yürürlüğe sokulan neoliberal paradigmanın Türkiye’de icra edilen klinik pratikteki belli başlı izdüşümleri; sosyal sigorta yapılanması, güvenlik ideolojisi, risk/tehlike kavramsallaştırması ve özellikle de “defansif tıp” yönelimleri üzerinden çağdaş kuramcılar vasıtasıyla değerlendirilmektedir.

In this review article, the current practice of medicine in Turkey and also the socio-political conditions of the medical profession are both evaluated, on the occasion of Dr. M. Taner Gören’s new book titled Sağlığın Ölümü (Death of the Health), that had published in the late months of last year (2022). The main argument that good medicine requires an egalitarian, democratic and publicist political regime is justified within the context of the professional experiences (and yet, based on the author’s views) included in this book. Moving beyond that, the significant implications of the neoliberal paradigm in Turkish clinical practice, which was fully put into order with the Health Transformation Program, are evaluated with the help of contemporary theorists through the social insurance structure, security ideology, risk/hazard conceptualization, and mainly the “defensive medicine” orientations.
