Bu makale, tarım, gıda ve sağlık kesişimindeki toksisite sorunsalını bilim ve toplum ilişkileri çerçevesinde tartışmayı öneriyor. Toksisiteyi toksik maddelerin cinsi ve miktarı ile tanımlamanın sınırlayıcı olduğuna dikkat çekerek, odağı toksik maddelerin bedenlere ve ekosistemlere verdiği zararlara dair bilgideki yapısal boşluklara çeviriyor. Bu boşlukların doldurulmasına yönelik üretilen bilimsel bilgileri kanıt siyaseti olarak değerlendiriyor ve bu siyasetin imkânlarını kimin ürettiği bilginin geçerli sayıldığı ve nasıl bir bilim soruları ışığında ele alıyor. Toksisite problemine çözüm arayışlarında, bilimsel bilgi üretiminin transdisipliner bir yaklaşımla şekillenmesinin önemini vurgulayarak, Türkiye’de toksik yaşamın bilgisinin üretim süreçlerini tartışmaya açıyor.

This article discusses toxicity as a problematic that stands at the intersection of agriculture, food, and health with a focus on science and society relations. It shows the limits of reducing the discussions over toxicity to the type and amount of toxic materials, and draws attention to the structured gaps in knowledge regarding the harm that toxic materials cause to bodies and ecosystems. This article reads the scientific knowledge production processes that seek to fill knowledge gaps within the terms of the politics of evidence, and explores the potentials of such politics by asking whose knowledge counts relevant and what kind of science we need. In the search for solutions to the toxicity problem, this article highlights the importance of transdisciplinary approach to scientific knowledge production, and seeks to open a space in Turkey to discuss over the knowledge production processes regarding toxic lives.
