Summary

  • Destruction of a forest is not merely cutting down of trees; it is the elimination of millions of living species and a system together with trees. The forms of struggle like “forest for oneself”, “forest for our planet”, and “forest for all humanity” as we know today or increasing weight of nature protection approaches are in fact rather new. Yet, unplanned investments driven solely by economic considerations in transportation, mining, energy, tourism, education, agriculture and urbanization threaten and destroy all natural ecosystems including forest ecosystems. Reactions devoid of scientific basis and social sensitivity, on the other hand, create only closed-circuit movements fading out after some small bursts. Such reactions are of course important, but not suff icient.
