Aiming to provide a critical perspectives on the structural problems of academy, this issue discusses the major topics such as the commodification of knowledge and education, the massification of higher education as a rapidly growing ‘market’, current trends and problems in medical education, the destruction of academic freedoms and gender equality, the transition to online education in the coronovirus crises by combining them with the historical development of universities in the world and in Turkey.
