Özet

  • ”Spiral Vakası”, 1960’lardan 1980’lere kadar Danimarka hükümetinin Grönland’daki Inuit halkı kadınlarına yönelik uyguladığı tartışmalı doğum kontrol politikalarını ifade etmektedir. İddialara göre, bu dönemde yüzlerce kadın ve genç kıza, çoğunlukla rızaları olmaksızın rahim içi araç (RİA) uygulanmıştır. Bu uygulamalar günümüzde, etik ve insan hakları açısından ciddi eleştirilere yol açmıştır. Uygulamanın kadınların bedenleri üzerindeki kontrolün ihlal edilmesi ve sömürgeci bir kontrol aracı olarak kullanılması eleştirilmiştir. Spiral Vakası, yalnızca bir sağlık politikası değil, aynı zamanda Danimarka’nın Grönland üzerindeki sömürgeci kontrolünü sürdürme çabalarının bir parçası olarak değerlendirilmektedir. Bu vaka, sömürgeci politikaların tıp etiği ve insan hakları üzerindeki etkilerini anlamak için önemli bir örnek teşkil etmektedir. Danimarka hükümeti, 2022 yılında bir araştırma komisyonu kurarak bu iddiaları incelemeye başlamıştır. Bu çalışma, ilgili vakanın tarihsel bağlamını, Danimarka’nın sömürgeci politikalarıyla ilişkisini ve etik boyutlarını incelemektedir.

Summary

  • The “Spiral Case” refers to the controversial birth control policies implemented by the Danish government on Inuit women in Greenland from the 1960s to the 1980s. Allegations indicate that intrauterine devices (IUDs) were administered to hundreds of women and young girls, often without their consent, during this period. These practices have caused significant criticism in terms of ethics and human rights today. The interventions have been criticized for violating women’s bodily autonomy and being used as a tool of colonial control. The Spiral Case is considered not only as a health policy but also part of Denmark’s strategy to maintain colonial dominance over Greenland. This case serves as an important example for understanding the impact of colonial policies on medical ethics and human rights. In 2022, the Danish government initiated an investigation into these allegations by establishing a research commission. This paper analyzes the historical context of the case, its connection to Denmark’s colonial policy, and its ethical dimensions.
